That's the bookbinder's. The room is above it.

  • Adults on their own come up here with anxiety, low mood, grief, or something that hasn't got a name yet. That's counselling for adults, and it's most of what we do.
  • Couples come up too, when the same conversation keeps going round, or has stopped happening at all. Either of you can make the first call about couples counselling.
  • A good many of the people who climb these stairs have never had therapy before. You don't need to know how it goes. That part is ours.

It's up these stairs. A few plain things on the way.

  1. step one

    A session is 50 minutes.

Long enough to get somewhere, short enough to get home afterwards.

  2. step two

    £65 a session. £85 for a couple.

The same whether you sit in the room or join online.

  3. step three

A small number of reduced-fee places.

If cost is the thing in the way, say so on the call.

  4. step four

Tuesdays and Thursdays run until 20:00.

Evening appointments, for people who can't get away in the day.

All of it, plainly: fees, sessions and privacy

Or join from wherever you are.

If Hebden Bridge is a long way off, or leaving the house is the hard part, sessions online are the same thing: the same 50 minutes, Mari or Dan, the same fee, and the same free call first.

You need a quiet corner, a reasonably steady connection, and a door you can close for an hour. We'll send the link.

A calm upstairs room with two armchairs turned towards a sash window, grey hills visible beyond the glass
the door, and the room Private, and unhurried

This is the door, and this is the room.

Two chairs, a window, the hills. The door closes, and what you say here stays here. The one exception is if we believed you or someone else was at serious risk, and where we could, we'd talk to you about that first.

Fifty minutes is longer than it sounds. You can sit down and say nothing for a while if that's where you are. Nobody in this room is in a hurry.

How private it is

Mari and Dan, at the window.

Two therapists, one room, working here together since 2017. You'd be seeing one of us, and the free call is a good place to work out which.

Mari Sutcliffe

Counsellor and psychotherapist · registered member of the BACP

People often tell me they'd been meaning to ring for months. That's all right. We start from wherever you happen to be.

Mari sees adults on their own and couples, in the room and online, and has been in this room since the practice opened in 2017.

Dan Okafor

Counsellor and psychotherapist · registered member of the BACP

I'm interested in the things people find hard to say out loud, and in giving them long enough to say them.

Dan sees adults and couples too, including a good many people who weren't sure therapy was for them until they'd tried the call.
